What is Prosthetic?
It deals with the restoration of the patient’s mouth in cases where parts of teeth, whole teeth or even all teeth, but also larger parts of oral and facial tissues have been lost.
Prosthetic goal
The goal of prosthetics is to restore the patient’s mouth functionally (chewing, speaking, pain relief, etc.) and aesthetically (smile, lips, facial appearance, etc.).
Fixed and Movable Prosthetics
Fixed prosthetics include all-ceramic or metal-ceramic crowns, bridges, veneers, etc. and removable prosthodontics complete, partial or inlay dentures, implant prosthodontics (crowns, bridges or dentures on implants) and the treatment of various diseases of the joints and muscles of the mouth.
A dental bridge is used to cover an empty space between two teeth. A bridge consists of two crowns that cover the teeth on either side of the gap. The simplest and most common type of bridge is a three-tooth bridge. If we don’t cover the gap between the teeth, there will be a great possibility that the teeth will start to move and eventually we will lose our aesthetics, but above all the correct bite.
Stefani is a “dental fit cap” that is placed over a natural tooth. The crowns (cases) are mainly made of porcelain, they are of excellent durability and aesthetics and are used to replace the old problematic ones, as well as those that were internally covered by metal. They are also used in the case of extensive damage, in endodontically treated (denervated) teeth and in dental implants.
Ceramic-ceramic cases may contain non-precious or precious metals such as gold and palladium. In the case that they do not contain precious metals, they are more accessible in price, but fall short in aesthetics, while they display a characteristic gray collar on their neck.
All-ceramic or porcelain cases have a better aesthetic result, as they reflect light better, making the teeth look more natural. They also have better biocompatibility, since they are friendlier to the gums, while less tooth substance needs to be removed for their placement.
Complete dentures are used when all teeth are missing from the jaw. It is a mobile construction that replaces all the teeth, rests on the soft tissues and is used in cases where immobile prosthetic restoration cannot be done using implants.
Partial dentures are used when a jaw is missing enough teeth and we cannot restore the gaps using porcelain dental bridges or implants. It is a construction that rests on the remaining teeth, is removed from the mouth and cleaned daily by the patient.
It is a method for patients with a complete lack of teeth. This procedure is based on a complete denture that rests on 4 implants.
This is a method where the implants have the role of the root of the tooth and the dental bridge is placed on top of them.
